The Capital Campaign at $788,314.00

The Capital Campaign now stands at $788,314.00.  The goal of reaching one million dollars is in sight. However it will require a concerted effort by every Pastoral Charge if we are to reach the goal.

Congregations are urged to continue the effort this fall and winter to financially support and promote the camp.


Introducing our Camp Staff

Kenneth Sanderson, Camp Director.
Ken has been a counsellor for the past three summers. He graduated from Bluefield High School in 2006. Last fall, he traveled in Europe. This fall he plans to attend the College of the North in NFLD  to study Adventure Tourism  He is a member of Trinity United Church in Charlottetown.

Ellen MacKinnon, assistant director and first aid coordinator, has a long history with Camp Abby. She graduated from Bluefield High School in 2006 and has completed her first year in nursing at UPEI. She is a member of the South Shore Pastoral Charge.

Heather Martin, waterfront coordinator, has been attending Camp Abby since 1996. A graduate of Three Oaks, Heather plans to return to Mount Allison to continue her studies in  English and History this fall.

Spenser MacDonald, Sports Coordinator, a member of South Shore UC, has been coming to Camp since he was 8 years old. Spenser plans to enter St. Thomas this fall.

Amanda Dunsford, Christian Development Coordinator, plans to return to St. Thomas University in the fall to begin her second year. Her long term plan is to become a teacher. She is a member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Charlottetown.

MacKayla Barbour, sports coordinator, has been attending Camp Abby as long as she can remember.  On the last day of camp, she celebrated her 18th birthday. This fall she plans to travel and do volunteer work in Thailand. She is a member of the Elmsdale-Alberton Pastoral Charge.

Graham Carver, returns to Camp Abby this year as a Senior Counsellor.  A graduate of Bluefield High School, he plans to go to UPEI this fall to study in the Business, then go on to Memorial University in NFLD.

Natasha MacDonald, Music Coordinator, returns a second year as a Camp Counsellor. She plans to enter the photography program Holland College this fall. Natasha is a member of Cornwall UC.

Bethany Mayne has been coming to Camp Abby since she was 7. This summer marks her first year as a counsellor. A grad of Kensington High School, she plans to go to UPEI this fall and major in Physics. She is a member and Sunday School Teacher at Kensington United Church.

Mitchell MacDonald, has also been coming to Camp Abby as long as he can remember. He is currently attending Bluefield High School and plans to go to University to study journalism.

Bethany Craig, assistant cook, has been a camper at Camp Abby for four years. A graduate of Westisle High School, she plans to attend Mount Allison this fall to major in English and minor in Music. She is a member of Tyne Valley United Church.

Jocelyn Fraser, Arts and Crafts coordinator and Senior Counsellor has been coming to Camp Abby since 1999. She is a student at Three Oaks in her final year and vice president of student council. She is a member at St. Paul’s RC in Summerside.

Michelle Nash, has been camp cook for the past summer. She lives in  Middleton, PEI. The highlight for Michelle, in her first year at Camp Abby, has been to see the camaraderie that develops between campers and staff.  Campers think she is an amazing cook who prepares tasty meals.

Thanks for a Job Well Done
As faithful servants of Jesus Christ, the Camp Staff this year have given their very best so that Campers had an opportunity to grow in body, mind, and spirit as members of the Christian Community. 

The Board extends thanks and appreciation for a job well done to the Staff for 2007!!!


Sod Turning - September 9th, 2:00 p.m.

A sod turning ceremony for the new lodge will be held on Sunday, September 9th at 2:00 p.m.

An invitation is extended to everyone to attend. Refreshments and a time of fellowship will follow.


Guest Speakers

Representative of the Camp would like the opportunity to speak to each pastoral charge to provide an update on the campaign. Guest speakers can be arranged by contacting Bob Lockhart (859-3207) or Ken Ezeard.

Construction of New Lodge to Begin

Construction on a new lodge will begin early in September and will be ready for use next summer.

A number of cabins will also be moved to accommodate the new lodge.

Future Plans

Plans are being underway to:
    a. develop the wooded area on the Camp property in cooperation with Ducks Unlimited;
    b. construct a hall which can be used for arts and crafts and rainy day activities;
    c. protect the waterfront from erosion.
